A large stone is erected, carved with decorations and inscribed:
AED MAQI DOMNALLI REX SCOT TORUM
The edge of the stone is inscribed with corresponding Ogham text.
Another stone is inscribed, with writing running sideways down the stone, with:
DOMNALLI REX SCOTTORUM HIC IACIT
Aed mac Domnall, newly minted king of the Scots in deceanglia (Gwynedd), has emerged on top following a period of strife. All other chiefs have either submitted or been slain, with their retinues claimed by Aed. To establish his reign, he has already erected a monument to himself, as well as posthumously claiming the kingship for his father with a memorial stone placed alongside the old Roman road, both for prime viewing and to legitimise his rule to the native Britons. Despite claiming 'Hic iacit - lies here', it is extremely unlikely that Domnall is actually interned anywhere near his stone.
