OoC: I have admin approval for this post, as it covers the interception of your army before reaching Madiolanium...
IC:
As the Hunnic Army crosses the Mincius, outriders report a massed Gothic force a short ride ahead, blocking the road to Mediolanium...
They are close enough to strike those on the West Bank should the Huns choose to retreat.
The scouts report the line stretched from the lake shore on the Hunnic right, extending across the road with the left being formed of a refused arc.
They cannot make any other report without risking overexting themselves, with the army mid-way through crossing.

The Hunnic forces make all haste to cross the river. The battle line of the Hun army will be laid out thusly:
The battle line is laid out from right to left with the Antae on the extreme right their flank protected by the river, they field an army of 20,000 Slavic warriors. Next in line are the sclavenes with 15,000 sclavic Warriors and 500 Huns acting as rear guard. Next the Alan's with 5,000 Alan's. The center of the hunnic force is the Utigurs so that volskivt khan has the optimal position for command, they field 17,000 Huns 2,000 of which act as rear guard up and down the whole rear line of the Hun army. Center left are the heruli who field 10,000 German warriors then the gota who bring 10,000 gothic warriors. On the far left Akatirs led my Marakov and Vlodrum "the bloody" they field 9,000 Huns with the added heruli nobles and gota nobles who number 4,000 Germanic and gothic nobles.
When the forces are in place the war horn of the tribe Utigurs sound loud greeted by all the other tribes with a roar. Now it is time for the Huns to taste blood and there will be no mercy.
Forces: 26,500 Huns 2,000 gothic nobles 2,000 Germanic nobles 35,000 Slavic warriors 10,000 Germanic warriors 10,000 gothic warriors 5,000 Alan's
Ooc: will wait on your post before attacking

OoC:
Second time is a charm...
IC:
The Roman line is arrayed in all its glory, purple banners, Gothic pennants, and Lombard hair standards rippling in the strong breeze off the lake.
From right to left, as Volksvit can see, stand the Lombards, Goths, and Gothic Foederati. Just ahead stand the skirmishers, a very safe distance from their line...
The Goths start chanting "Grublik! Grublik! Grublik!", an aide to Volksvit suggests that they may be mocking the Hunnic language...

Volskivt has seen many displays in war, from kings sacraficing virgins before a battle and even one where the women where forced to cut their breasts off in order to make the Huns lose interest in their conquest. This was one of the most histerical by far, he had never been so amused before a battle. "Grublik I like it... Perhaps that is what I shall call the tribe we will make out of what is left of the country when we are done with it."
The left flank breaks off from the main horde losing arrow after arrow into the Roman lines while darting back and forth being careful not to linger too close and be caught out. The right flank holds steady awaiting the Roman charge. Loosing arrows with repeat before the Romans enter a hundred yards of the Hun lines.
The left flanking force are the Akatirs led my Marakov using their gorilla tactics. 9,000 Huns strong. Remaining on the left flank are 2,000 German nobles and 2,000 gothic nobles awaiting with vlodrum the bloody in command.
The war cry of the Huns is deafening. Over powering the Roman troops own shout by sheer number of men. Vloskivt smiles "and now we begin in earnest".

OoC: Apologies, I should have given an idea of the numbers rather than just blah is here, blah is there.
The Roman left is made up of 15,000 Gothic Foederati, merging seamlessly into the centre of 50,000 Gothic warriors. The Roman right, the refused flank, is made up of 40,000 other Foederati.
The skirmishers number 25,000 mixed peasants and freed slaves.
3,000 Alans and Kutrigurs form a harrasing force on the extreme right.
The remainder of the army is held in reserve, a further c. 50,000 mixed cavalry and infantry

OOC: Just poking my nose in, shouldn't those numbers have gone up earlier as they would very much influence the Hunnic decision to engage.

Any chance we can go back to my forces crossing the river I am aware we've already begun but was not aware of the size of your force. Happy (or rather accepting) that you have the jump on me but would like to change my decision based on the new information given if you agree I will delete all my posts and ask you do the same except for your first one where I will then reply with my new stratagem

I also would say it would only be fair, particularly considering (I presume) that the Hunnic force is way more mobile than that of the ERE.

Any reply? Or shall we leave it up to admin? I think before a battle there should definitely be a mandatory list of all forces (other than those that are concealed deliberately) just so this sort of thing doesn't happen again. Also quick question after reviewing both Lombardy and your forces I can seem to find where the 50,000 gothic warriors came from did you mean your legions?

Sorry, been late at work. Leave it up to admin, it was only in my gift to say that you were intercepted on the march.

Sure, I'll just wait for admin. I only posted it myself because he was busy and I didn't want you to end up waisting time writing a bunch of stuff that would be rendered moot.

The course of events is unchanged, except that the Huns, seeing that the enemy force is larger than expected, and with a possible avenue of retreat, are able to change their minds and flee. The Huns are mobile, but Ricky is using them to protect the bulk of his army, meaning that they can only move as fast as infantry march, and will be protecting the rear from Roman attacks. Ricky could basically choose between protecting his force and marching as one, or protecting his core troops, the Huns, by having them leg it, and risk losing his Germanic units. Huns can move very fast, by changing mounts at intervals and remaining in the saddle. It might cost them horses in a retreat, but it will save their lives.
If you're alright with it, I think I have standing orders from the both of you. If ricky wants to stick to his 'we stand together' approach to the retreat, and Imperium Romanum (O) wants to go ahead with his most recent messages regarding the pursuit of the Hunnic force, I can go ahead and post the results of the Battle of Benacus / the Retreat of Benacus.

Marcellinus turns to his corps trumpet, which sounds the general advance.
