Garamantia
The Garamantes are a Berber tribe that developed an advanced literate society centred on the now desolate Fezzan in Libya. They employed a system of complex underwater irrigation to provide centuries of greatly enhanced fertility in the region, allowing them to support an increased population and dominate several trade routes through the Sahara. These desert people have not forgotten their past, and maintain a proud equine tradition, as well as sporting ritual scars on their warriors. The Garamantes are generally friendly to Rome, but are not beyond opportunistic strikes at coastal settlements during periods of unrest. The Garamantes will face an invader with lightning fast desert cavalry, and can also call upon infantry levies from its cities. The Garamantes may be defeated, but may prove impossible to break, since they are able to cross deserts at will where others dare not go.
