The ports of the Illyrian coast busy themselves with the building of fine galleys - of Dromons. These versatile vessels are to project Lombard power beyond their shores, and into the sea which divides them from Italy.
The ships are 'Christened' in a peculiar rite, overseen by Germanic priests, and named as follows:
Theodosius - the finest vessel, and the flag-ship.
Irminsul.
Sinthgunt.
The ships are built by Roman shipwrights, but are crewed mostly by Lombards.
