Municipium Claudium Aguntum is a mining and trading centre within the Alps, linked to the rest of Noricum Mediterraneum by the river Dravus. The area of the city has never hosted a noteworthy military presence, and the city has been sacked by Goths and Huns alike as they cross into Italy or Gaul.

Municipium Teurnia (also: Tiburnia) has superseded Virunum as the capital of Noricum Mediterraneum. The city is based in the mountainous province and along the strategic Dravus river that connects Teurnia and Aguntum, flows not far south of Virunum and even leads to Poetoria in Pannonia.

Municipium Claudium Virunum was the original capital of Noricum Mediterraneum, rumoured to be the ancient seat of a Celtic kingdom, and is ideally situated on a crossroads between the principal route from the Adriatic and the Danube, and the road linking Teurnia and Aguntum with Pannonia in the east.
