With the arrival of the imperial family in Aegyptus comes the joyous news that Fabricia, the wife of Julian, has given birth to a second son during the voyage from Carthage. A perilous place at the best of times, the sea is not the ideal place for a birth, but it appears that the young Aulus is healthy and that Fabricia will recover. The child has been named with a family praenomen, and distinguished with the cognomen 'Theodosius' to give the semblance of imperial continuity. Despite this official naming, the child has quickly become known to the majority as Neptunus, or the son of the sea. This additional cognomen has been more or less officially adopted by Julian.
All debts to the state in Egypt are cancelled in celebration of the imperial birth.
