With the news of a potential Hunnic army heading his way Ivaylo has order that work be begun immediately on completing the following:
The defences:
The Red line indicates a 20ft palisade some 3600 metres in length. The palisade will has a base of compacted earth and stone with the walls made from treated timber reinforced and braced in the fashion of a Roman fort. The palisade will be reached by great earthen ramps behind the timber which will provide both easy access to the fire step and strong reinforcement to the wall. The wall will have two gates.
The Green line indicated a 10ft deep and 7 ft wide ditch some 10 feet in front of the main wall. It will be connected to the Danube at either end which will make it an even more difficult prospect to cross.
The Blue line shows a curtain wall to be constructed in the same fashion as the landwards wall, it will be set back far enough from the river to allow in places for docks and jetties to be constructed and maintained. The seawards wall will have three gates build into it.
The black line will be an inner wall surrounding the stables, Ivaylo's longhouse, the armoury and the food stores. It will be of the same construction methods and dimensions as the outer walls.
Construction of these fortifications is to begin with immediate effect, the males population will be put to work with men working in shifts so that construction can be conducted around the clock.
