Rebelception
Objective: Unite the Gallic Empire.
Description: Your rebellion has divided in on itself, with one of your chief generals now supporting a new usurper in the form of Maximus of Hispania, a mere puppet of Gerontius. Your son and heir, the Caesar Constans, has been chased out of Hispania by Gerontius and is now under siege in Vienne.
Options:
Defeat Gerontius in Battle:
Put Gerontius to the sword, and defeat him in battle.
Accept Maximus as Augustus:
Gerontius rebelled due to negotiations with Honorius. If you accept Maximus as your co-regent and promise to march on Italia within a year, Gerontius will be loyal once again.
---------------------
Civil War: Western Augustus
Objective: Capture Ravenna, and take Honorius dead or alive.
Description: The uneasy stalemate cannot go on forever. You will never truly be emperor of the west until you control the great imperial cities of the Italian peninsula. Defeat Honorius, seize the throne, and rule as uncontested lord of the west.
Effects: The Gallic Empire and the Western Roman Empire shall be reunited under the rule of the neo-Constantinian dynasty.
--------------------
Civil War: Gallic Empire
Objective: Establish your own imperial court.
Description: The war may be long and indecisive, and the court of Ravenna is filled with unworthy councillors. It is time to appoint your own council of loyal officials, and reign from a proper imperial court rather than a military camp.
Effects: The Gallic Empire will be less unstable and have a full array of court officials for faction politics, but will turn the court of Honorius into potential future rebels.
--------------------
Civil War: Devil's Deal
Objective: Ally yourself with Ataulf's Goths, by promising them lands in Italy.
Description: If the difficulty of invading Italy over the Alps without any overwhelming superiority is too daunting a task, we may make a deal with the devil and buy the services of the Goths which so recently sacked the Eternal City. They are eager for good lands in Italy, and we are eager for a quick victory - what could possibly go wrong?
Effects: The Gothic confederation will become loyal to Constantine III personally, and fight with his armies to install him upon the imperial throne, but will expect significant grants of good land (preferably in northern Italy) for their service. They will settle as a client kingdom of Rome, and will provide a pool of foederati in future.
